On Thursday, thousands of demonstrators marched in the streets of the capital Guatemala City in order to demand the resignation of the president Jimmy Morales accused of corruption
He has indeed attacked the anti-corruption commission led by the UN and whose mission is to investigate the financing of the 2015 election campaign whose legality is more than doubted. These large-scale protests do not only happen in the capital, but throughout the country. This dynamic of popular protest really marks the weariness of the Guatemalan population for this corruption that is eating away at the country and its political scene, and also perhaps the end of impunity for a corrupt political elite.
