Mr Bush senior, who served as the 41st US president between 1989 and 1993, died on Friday at the age of 94. National funerals were held on Wednesday, December 5th at the National Cathedral. Many US and foreign dignitaries attended it: President Donald Trump and three of his predecessors – Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, and their wives. Prince Charles, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Queen Rania, Polish President Andrzej Duda and Lech Walesa were also among the guests. In a personal and tinged with humor eulogy, his son Mr Bush Jr, 43rd President of the United States, greeted the memory of his father, notably thanking him for being “a noble man, the best father”. Wednesday has been declared a national day of mourning – many government offices and US stock exchanges were closed and the UN Security Council observed a minute of silence.
