On Monday evening, January 15, several thousand people gathered in various Polish cities to pay tribute to Pawel Adamowicz, stabbed to death on Sunday in the middle of a public event.
His murderer, a 27-year-old prisoner, has not made any claim to his act, which he denies being the perpetrator. This murder takes place in a Poland marked by significant social and political tensions. The debates surrounding the municipal election were unusually violent, particularly between the city’s mayor and the Civic Platform, the main opposition party.
The Polish state has declared a national day of mourning, which has yet to be determined in order to pay a final tribute to him.
